Iran private sector urges preferential trade agreement with Serbia

President of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Hossein Selahvarzi has stressed the need for forming a preferential trade agreement between Iran and Serbia.

Selahvarzi made the remarks in a meeting in Tehran on Thursday with Serbia’s Assistant Minister for Economic Diplomacy Jagoda Lazareva.

Noting that economic relations between Iran and Serbia are lagging behind their political relations, he said that in addition to resolving obstacles on the way of financial exchanges, the two countries also need to ease customs tariffs.  

He reiterated that the ground is prepared for joint investments between Iran and Belgrade, underlining the role the chambers of commerce can play in this regard.

The Serbian side, for her part, said that the time is ripe for more enhanced economic relations between Iran and Serbia.

Lazareva added that the Serbian companies are eager to make investments in Iran, underlining that the private sectors of both sides can play a significant role.

She said that her country welcomes a preferential trade agreement with Iran, expressing hope that the two countries will discuss the PTA in an upcoming joint economic commission meeting.  

She also proposed for formation of a trade council between chambers of commerce of the two countries.
