Iran has collected as much as 4,090 trillion rials ($7.9 billion) of taxes in the first seven months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21 – October 22), according to an official with the knowledge of the matter.

Mojtaba Amiri, a senior official at the Iranian National Tax Administration (INTA), said on Monday that Iran’s seven-month tax revenues show a 51% rise compared to figures reported in last year’s corresponding period.

He noted that direct taxes made up some 2,600 trillion rials ($5.03 billion) of the sum.

Iran has introduced measures in recent years to crack down on tax evasion as part of plans to rely more on domestic resources of the economy and to offset the impacts of US sanctions.
