Iran has imported some 20.93 million metric tons (mt) of basic goods at the value of $13.6 billion in 10 calendar months to January 20, according to a recent report by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA).
The IRICA report suggested that Iran’s imports of essential goods in the period under review have posted a slight 0.02% increase in terms of tonnage, while declining 8.24% in value terms.
The figures indicated that corn, edible oils, different types of oil seeds, rice and wheat were the top five items among the essential goods imported into Iran in the 10-month period.
Imports of corn, edible oil and oil seeds have registered 12.93%, 1.64% and 3.94% year-on-year increases respectively, while imports of rice and wheat have dropped by 46.52% and 35.61% compared to figures reported in last year’s corresponding period.
