Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf has highlighted high potentials of the country’s private sector.

Qalibaf was addressing a meeting with the board members of Iran Chamber of Commerce and Tehran Chamber of Commerce and some other economic actors of the country on Monday.

He said that Iran can attract some 5 to 7 billion dollars of investment in 20 months by using the potentials of the country’s private sector, without relying on foreign investment.

The private sector must not wait for the government and the parliament, Qalibaf said, adding that they should act and the parliament will facilitate.

He noted that the parliament attaches special significance to the views of the chambers of commerce on different issues. “representatives from the chamber of commerce can appear before the parliament to express their views on different issues.”

President of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Samad Hassanzadeh, for his part, said that the country has to set out an industrial strategy for the next ten years in advance.

He voiced the readiness of Iran Chamber of Commerce to help the setting out of this strategy.

Hassanzadeh noted that the country requires more interaction of the government and the parliament with the private sector in making development plans for the Iranian economy.
