Hamid Pourmohammadi, the head of Iran’s Plan and Budget Organization says the country’s gas consumption is equivalent to that of China.
Speaking as a guest at a meeting of the Board of Representatives of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) in Tehran on Sunday, he said that Iran produces a total of 230 billion cubic meters of gas annually.
With Iran’s annual gas exports being as low as 5 billion cubic meters, the country’s domestic gas consumption stands at an annual 225 billion cubic meters which is equivalent to that of China or 25 European countries, Pourmohammadi said.
The official made the remarks after some ICCIMA Board of Representatives criticized about the country’s energy imbalance, urging for allocating resources for offsetting the damage caused to industries by electricity and gas outages.
He, nonetheless, said that he recognizes these challenges and seeks the cooperation of the private sector to find solutions to these problems.
“When it comes to supplying gas and electricity, the production sector is seriously affected.”
