Hassan Abbaszadeh, the caretaker of the National Iranian Petrochemical Company (NIPC) has said that Iran’s annual output of petrochemical products is projected to rise to as much as 131 million tons by the end of the country’s 7th five-year development plan.
Speaking at a conference in Tehran on Tuesday, he put the current Iranian nominal output of petrochemical products at almost 100 million tons.
He, however, added that Iran is only using 80% of its petrochemical capacity and the rest 20% is not active, mostly (60%) due to the shortage in feed and also partly as a result of other problems affecting the production process.
Last year, Ahmad Mahdavi, who served as secretary of Iran’s Association of Petrochemical Industry Employers, said that Petrochemicals accounted for over 30% of Iran’s non-oil exports.
