The Secretary of the Shipping Association of Iran has highlighted the significant growth of the private sector in the shipping industry, with 30 fully private shipping companies now operating in the country.
In an interview with Iran Chamber of Commerce newsroom on the occasion of the country’s National Transportation Day, Masoud Polmeh stated that sanctions-induced pressures created opportunities for private investment in the maritime sector.
This shift has led to the establishment of over 30 private shipping companies and 100 ship-owning firms capable of facilitating export and import processes across various platforms, he said.
Polmeh noted that while these companies contribute significantly to Iran’s shipping needs, they do not meet the country’s full demand. He emphasized the role of additional firms managing cargo transport to and from Iranian ports using foreign vessels.
The remarks underscore the resilience of Iran's private sector amid international challenges, showcasing its critical role in sustaining the nation's trade and transportation infrastructure in the face of arbitrary sanctions imposed on the country.
