Alireza Kolahi Samadi, head of the Industry Commission at Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA), has emphasized that the goals outlined in Iran Vision Plan 2050 must be measurable, tangible, and assigned to specific, accountable individuals.
Speaking to Iran Chamber of Commerce newsroom, Kolahi highlighted that while the targets should not be overly simplistic, they also must avoid being excessively unrealistic. He noted, “A country's future outlook depends on its past performance and cannot be entirely detached from it.”
Kolahi stressed the importance of prioritizing sustainable development and infrastructure enhancement to meet the country’s needs. “In addition to updating and improving infrastructure, we must ensure balanced development. For example, during the implementation of the 2025 Vision Plan, substantial investments were made in the petrochemical sector. However, most of these were in gas-based petrochemicals with minimal added value, while gas production did not increase proportionally,” he said.
He pointed out that early observations of the Vision Plan 2050 indicate a diversity of inputs in its formulation. “This is a good start, but not sufficient. The plan must be continuously monitored throughout its implementation. If we aim to achieve our goals over the next 26 years, we need an annual roadmap showing our progress and specifying accountability for each step,” Kolahi added.
Kolahi also suggested that, given Iran's population size and economic potential, the minimum economic target for the Vision 2050 should be positioning Iran as the third-largest economy in the region.
