Iran's foreign transit of goods surged by 31% in the first nine months of the current calendar year (March 20 – December 20, 2024), reaching 16.5 million tons, according to the head of the country’s customs administration.
Foroud Asgari noted that Shahid Rajaei, Parviz Khan, and Bashmaq customs accounted for the highest volumes of transit during this period.
Shahid Rajaee Special Economic Zone customs handled 4.4 million tons of goods, followed by Parviz Khan with 3.8 million tons and Bashmaq with 2.3 million tons, Asgari said.
He added that these three major customs offices collectively accounted for 10.5 million tons of the total foreign transit during the period.
The growth highlights Iran's increasing role as a regional transit hub, leveraging its strategic location to facilitate trade routes between Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
