Iran’s largest carmaker IKCO has hit a new record in daily production of passenger cars amid plans in the country to increase its annual car production by nearly 30%.

The Iran Khodro Company said on Monday that it had manufactured 2,505 cars on January 25 to register a new high in its daily output.

The company said it would ramp up sales and deliveries in the two remaining months of the current calendar year ending late March.

It said production of passenger cars had increased in recent weeks thanks to the lower number of power cuts and an increased supply of natural gas and gasoil to the company.

The IKCO said earlier this week that it had churned out 55,000 cars in the calendar month to January 19 to hit a monthly high.

The figures are consistent with statements issued by the Iranian Ministry of Industries, Mine and Trade (MIMT) suggesting that Iran could hit a new annual record for car output.

MIMT forecasts show that the total production of passenger cars by the IKCO, second largest carmaker Saipa, and a handful of other companies would reach 1.7 million units in the calendar year to March 20.

Iranian automotive companies produced 1.335 million cars in the calendar year to March 2024, making the country the 16th largest car producer in the world.

Iran has seen a rise in domestic manufacturing of cars in recent years amid restrictions imposed on imports because of foreign sanctions.

The rise in car output has enabled Iranian carmakers to diversify their models and speed up their electrification plans.
