The head of the Iran-Azerbaijan Joint Chamber of Commerce says that bilateral trade between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan continues despite the spread of coronavirus.
“Over the past year, during the pandemic, the customs between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan have been the only border customs that were active round the clock,” Hossein Pirmoazen said.
Bileh Savar and Astara are the main border crossings between the two neighbors.
speaking at a webinar on trade opportunities between Iran and Azerbaijan, Pirmoazen further said that Iran is ready to provide technical assistance to the Republic of Azerbaijan in order to rebuild regions around Nagorno-Karabakh that were liberated following a deadly conflict with ethnic Armenian forces late last year.
The deadly conflict between Armenia and the Azerbaijan Republic ended on November 10 with a Russian-brokered truce.
As part of the truce agreement, Armenia returned swathes of territory it had occupied for decades to Azeri control.
Iran has officially welcomed the end of decades of occupation in areas surrounding the Nagorno-Karabakh. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said last month that liberation of those regions would spur increased economic activity in areas close to the Iranian border.
