Head of the Transportation and Logistics Commission of Iran Chamber of Commerce Ali Hosseini has urged setting up a land corridor between Iran, Iraq and Syria.
Hosseini believes that the launch of such a corridor can help establish a logical balance in international transportation.
“We can use the Syrian ports to send our commodities to East Europe,” he said.
Noting that Syria attaches special significance to economic relations with Iran, Hosseini said the problem is that Iran’s land route to Syria via Iraq has not been fully reopened.
He said that during a visit to Syria by Iran’s minister of road and urban development, the launch of Iran-Iraq-Syria corridor has to be discussed. “An agreement has to be made between Iran, Syria and Iraq.”
Once the corridor is lunched, Iranian commodities will reach more quickly to the Syrian market and will also become far more economically justifiable, Hosseini said.
“An Iranian ship is dispatched to Syria each month but it is not enough and we need to invest on land transportation.”
Chairman of Iran-Syria Joint Chamber of Commerce Keyvan Kashefi late in November 2021 called for reopening Iran transit road to Syria with cooperation of the Iraqi government and the Iranian Ministry of Road and Urban Development.
