Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has banned imposition of higher prices on assembled cars.

In a cabinet session on Monday, the president assigned First Vice-President Mohammad Mokhber and Minister of Economy Ehsan Khandouzi to investigate into increasing the prices of assembled cars by the National Competition Council.

President Raisi called on the two cabinet members to correct the prices.

Referring to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei’s naming the Persian New Year as the year of “inflation control, growth in production”, the president said that it is not accepted that a council rises the prices without the necessary permits.

The Guardian Council, which is the Iranian government body responsible for signing parliament bills into law, has approved a parliament law that allows unlimited imports of brand-new and second-hand cars into the country amid efforts by the government to contain rampant prices of the domestically-produced cars.

In a session held on Saturday, the Guardian Council endorsed a legislation ratified in June which allowed the government to lift restrictions on imports of cars into Iran.
