Iran has imported some 7.35 million tons of essential goods worth $4.763 billion in the first four months of the current calendar year (March 21 – July 21), according to a report by the Ministry of Economy.
The report added that the figure is 1.57% down in terms of tonnage year-on-year, also showing a 6.21% YOY decline in terms of value.
In value terms, corn was the number one basic good imported to Iran in the four-month under review accounting for $1.297 billion worth of Iranian imports in the time span, followed by edible oils ($1.022 billion) and different types of oil seeds ($707 million).
Imports of these three mentioned commodities have registered a significant rise compared to last year’s corresponding period.
