Iran imports over 13.2 million tons of basic goods in eight months

More than 13.2 million tons of essential commodities have been imported into Iran over the eight calendar months to November 22, according to a report by the country’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO).

More than 13.2 million tons of essential commodities have been imported into Iran over the eight calendar months to November 22, according to a report by the country’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO).

The PMO report, which was released on Sunday, said that the basic goods imported into Iran included wheat, barley, corn, soy bean, rice, sugar, and edible oil.

It added that the imports of soy beans have registered a 4% year-on-year growth with corn imports increasing by 1%.

Iran has imported as much as 2.44 million tons of wheat in the eight-month period, importing some 1.37 million tons of barley, according to the PMO report.

It also put Iran’s imports of corn and soy bean at 5.81, 2.5 million tons respectively.   

The country has also imported some 326,785 tons of sugar and 692,125 tons of edible oil in the period under review.
