Some 15.5 million tons of essential commodities have been imported into Iran over the nine calendar months to December 21, according to a report by the country’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO).
The PMO report, which was released on Sunday, said that the basic goods imported into Iran included wheat, barley, corn, soy bean, rice, sugar, and edible oil.
It added that the imports of corn have registered a 7% year-on-year growth with soy bean imports increasing by 12%.
Iran imported as much as 3.13 million tons of soy bean in the March-December period of 2023 while the figure stood at 2.79 million tons in last year’s corresponding period.
The country also imported a total of 2.67 million tons of wheat, and 1.5 million tons of barley in the period under review, with its corn imports being reported at 6.96 million tons.
The PMO report also put Iran’s nine-month imports of sugar and edible oil at 345,114 and 798,173 tons respectively.
