Iran’s basic goods imports at around 23 million mt in 11 months

Iran has imported some 22.88 million metric tons (mt) of essential goods worth $17.8 billion in eleven calendar months to February 19, according to a recent update by the country’s customs administration (IRICA).

Iran has imported some 22.88 million metric tons (mt) of essential goods worth $17.8 billion in eleven calendar months to February 19, according to a recent update by the country’s customs administration (IRICA).

The IRICA report said that the Iranian imports of essential goods in this period shows a 1.3% increase in terms of tonnage while declining 5% in terms of value.

It added that corn was the top essential commodity imported into Iran with $3.5 billion worth of imports in the mentioned period. It was followed by edible oils, different types of oil seeds, rice and wheat with 2.28, 2.47, 1.21 and 1 billion dollars worth of imports respectively.

Iran’s imports of corn, edible oils and oil seeds have grown by 16%, 0.32% and 5% in the timespan while the country’s imports of rice and wheat have registered declines of 45% and 39% respectively.  

Iran’s imports of tea, rice, wheat, unprocessed sugar, beans and barley posted the highest declines in Iran’s imports of basic goods in the aforementioned period.
