The president of Iran Chamber of Commerce has said the country’s building materials industry has significant potential for job creation and foreign currency earnings, as most raw materials are sourced domestically.

Speaking on the sidelines of an international construction industry exhibition in Tehran, Samad Hassanzadeh said more than 90% of the raw materials needed for the sector are available inside the country, allowing for value-added production and strong export opportunities.

He noted that Iranian manufacturers adhere to international standards, making their products competitive abroad. Hassanzadeh also pointed to ongoing efforts to form export consortia among major companies, a project under discussion for several years, which he said would require cultural change and a stronger understanding of partnership in trade.

He added that by joining larger groups, small- and medium-sized firms could come under the umbrella of bigger players and expand their role in exports.
