Iran has managed to increase its agricultural output by nearly a fifth in a year amid growing efforts to cut back on imports of basic goods and to increase the added value in the country’s agriculture sector, according to Minister of Agricultural Jihad.
In line with efforts to increase Iranian wheat output over the past few years, the country has plans to give a further rise to its rain-fed wheat production within the next 3 years, according to deputy minister of agricultural jihad.
Iran exported about $1.027 billion of agricultural products in the first three months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20-June 21), registering an increase of 37 percent year on year.
Iran has purchased some 5.6 million tons of wheat worth over $1.647 billion from domestic producers since April in carrying out a national plan which guarantees the purchase of domestic production of the crop, according to a senior official with the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad (MAJ).
The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has forecasted a further increase in Iran’s grain output this year amid efforts by the government in the country to rely more on domestic farming rather than imports for basic needs of the country.
Iran has purchased some 4.4 million tons of wheat at the worth of over $1.3 billion from domestic producers since April in carrying out a national plan which guarantees the purchase of domestic production of the crop.
The production of pistachios in Iran is expected to reach 200,000 tons in the current calendar year to late March 2025.
Iran has produced $1 billion more agricultural products over the past calendar year to late March than that produced a year earlier, according to Minister of Agriculture Mohammad-Ali Nikbakht.
Iran exported 1.56 million tons of agricultural products worth $684 million in the first two months of calendar year (March 20 – May 20), an increase of 28 percent in value year on year.
Iran exported 1,562,000 tons of agricultural products worth $684 million from March 21 to May 20, 2024, the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) announced.
